Degerloch Book Week Assembly

Students in the Degerloch Lower School had a fun time at our closing Book Week assembly. With special guests such as Pig and Elephant, and our amazing guest author Mark Robson, the laughs didn’t stop. All the students also came dressed as their favorite characters so even the audience was diverse and entertaining.

A big thank you to Ms. Lydia for organizing such a wonderful week, as well as to our other librarians Mr. Lawrence, Mrs. Daniel, and Mr. Rose who engaged students across the entire school in celebrating their love of reading.

Book Week 20th – 24th March 2017 and visiting author Mark Robson in ISS

Dear Parents,

ISS is going to celebrate Book Week from the 20th to 24th of March. Throughout this week everything about reading and creative writing will be highlighted and celebrated. We have also invited an author Mark Robson, who is from the UK, especially around Essex and West Wales. He was also a RAF pilot until 2005 although he started writing in 1995. He has written books such as Devil’s Triangle series, Imperial Spy Series, Dragon Orb Series, Darkweaver Legacy Series, Warrior Kids series and more. In ISS Sindelfingen he will be speaking to students from EY through grade 8 on Wednesday. You can read more about the author here http://www.markrobsonauthor.com/about/ There will be a book sale on Wednesday in ISS Sindelfingen. Please send minimum 10 Euros with you children to buy books signed by the author.

In ISS Sindelfingen we also have lots of interesting activities surrounding the theme “Imagine all the stories you could write” during Book Week. Everyday we have DEAR (Drop Everything And Read), the author visit on Wednesday, Haiku in a Pocket on Thursday and wear your favorite book or author hat on Friday. Primary students are writing Haikus right now during their library sessions. Please help your children to design and create their hats and bring them to school on the 24th of March. Students’ creative writings will be displayed around the school.

We are looking forward to a week full of fun with reading and writing and more.

Sincerely,

Julia Daniel and Matthew Rose

Hour of Code: A great success!

Many students at ISS had opportunity this week to learn more about coding and to experience the thrill of getting a computer to do what they told it! Using a variety of apps such as Kodable and the games available on code.org/learn, the students used block coding to experience worlds such as Minecraft, Star Wars, and Frozen. All students without exception were quickly and easily able to navigate the environment and to reach more complex levels.

Our advice: Keep coding! You can download many of the apps for free and code.org is available year around.
