Bookfair Fun!

bookfair

The Lower School were amazed by the wonderful books that arrived with The Little English Bookworm yesterday. Funny or factual everyone found a book to love. Miss Lydia now has a wonderful new stack of books to add to the library. The Upper School and Sindelfingen have a treat to look forward to.

Math + Books = Fun!

ISS Degerloch campus students were fortunate to meet and have a session with author and math extraordinaire, David Schwartz this Wednesday and Thursday. David dazzled his audiences with really BIG numbers. We learned how big a Googol was ( a 1 with a 100 zeroes), about exponents, about proportional ratios, what 10 000 pieces of popcorn looks like and for the older students why there is math when a hippo makes a grunting noise.

David inspired so many of our students. He gave us a message that we all can come up with big, interesting ideas and in fact, children are particularly good at this. David explained that many of his ideas for writing came from the things he wondered about as a child. He told us he used to ask many many questions as a child and these questions were the building blocks of his books which he then wrote as an adult.  Of course this fits into our learning framework at ISS and is something that is encouraged and supported every day in the classroom, it is something we call; being an Inquirer.

ISS Sindelfingen will be meeting David on Friday the 13th of October.

Author: David Schwartz visiting ISS

American author David Schwarz will be visiting ISS (Degerloch and Sindelfingen) from October 11th to 13th. David is an award winning author and is well known for his books which carry a maths and science theme. He is well known for making kids excited about these topics and developing curiosity and wonder in children. You can check out David’s books from any of the ISS libraries.

Grade 2 Breakout!

Over 4 weeks the Grade 2 students have been coming up to the library to use their problem solving skills in order to crack the code and open the locks of the breakout box. As well as solving the pattern and coding problems the students worked together as a team to share ideas and come up with the solutions.

Dear Parents and Students,

We are thrilled to let you know that we will be having a book fair on Tuesday the 29th of November in Sindelfingen, Wednesday 30th November in Degerloch Lower School and Thursday 1 December in Degerloch Upper School. The book fair will be hosted by Little English Bookworm, who specialise in English books.

On Tuesday 29th the books will be available at Sindelfingen (from 12:00) with books for all ages available. At Degerloch Lower School on Wednesday 30th November, the book fair will be in the Lower School entrance and focussing on ages 3-11 and on Thursday 1st December the fair will be held in the Upper School entrance and focusing on books from 11 years old to young adults.

The timetable for the three days is:

Tuesday 29th November open hours 12:00 – 16:00

Wednesday 30th November open hours 08:00 – 16:00

Thursday 1st December opening hours 08:00 – 15:30

The lower school classes will be visiting the fair during the day and the students will have the opportunity to purchase a book. If you would like your son or daughter to purchase a book we suggest between 10-15 EUR. There will be no planned class visits for Upper and Middle School but again, your son or daughter can purchase a book for between 10-15 EURO.

As a result of the sale, ISS do receive free books from Little English Bookworm that go to the library and classrooms so this is an excellent opportunity for us all to obtain some great new books.

Thank you for your time and interest.
